Have a post that didn’t get published at its scheduled time? Here we’ll outline the possible reasons for a failed post, and how to fix the issue.
Reasons a post may fail:
Your social profile is expired
Your post was set to notification publishing (Instagram)
Missing camera roll permission (notification publishing on iOS)
You’ve exceeded 25 posts in 24 hours (Auto Publishing)
1. Your Social Profile is Expired
If your social profile is expired, the connection between Later and the social platform is lost. This means we won’t be able to publish your posts. Your social profile can expire for a few different reasons. But no matter the reason, refreshing your profile should fix this and allow future posts to publish as expected.
How to fix:
- Go to your Social Sets and Access Groups settings to check if your profile is expired
- If your profile is expired, see How to Refresh Your Social Profile Connection
2. Your Post Was Set to Notification Publishing (Instagram)
Later has two ways to publish Instagram posts, notification publishing and Auto Publishing. Notification publishing requires that you finish the posting process manually when Later sends you your mobile notification. If your post was set to notification publishing and you didn’t finish publishing, the post won’t go live.
Note: Some posts must be published using notification publishing due to Instagram restrictions. These include:
How to fix:
- If you haven’t already, enable Auto Publishing for your Instagram business profile
- If Auto Publish is already enabled, ensure your single image and video posts are set to Auto Publish

3. Missing Camera Roll Permission (Notification Publishing on iOS)
If you’re using Later on iOS and your photos aren’t appearing in your camera roll for notification publishing, you may need to grant Later photo access.
How to fix:
- Go to your iPhone’s Settings
- Scroll down and tap into the Later app
- Tap Photos
- Make sure you’ve selected All Photos
4. You’ve Exceeded 25 Posts in 24 Hours (Auto Publishing)
Instagram’s API does not allow more than 25 posts to be Auto Published in a 24 hour rolling period. After 25 posts Instagram will block Later from automatically publishing any further posts.
How to fix:
- Keep the number of daily scheduled Auto Publish posts below 25
- Use notification publishing for posts beyond the 25 post limit
