To change or transfer ownership of a Later Social account, update the email address used for the Account Owner login.
The Account Owner email address is used to log in to Later and receive account notifications and transactional emails. Changing this email address also changes the Account Owner.
Before You Start
Before changing the Account Owner email, make sure:
- You can log in to the current Account Owner account
- The new Account Owner email address is correct and accessible
- The new email address is not already connected to a Later account as a user or admin
- The account is a Later Social account
If the new Account Owner is already a user on the account, remove them from the account first. This frees up their email address so it can be used as the new Account Owner email.
If the new Account Owner email is connected to another Later account, that account must be deleted first. If the new owner can’t access that account, they can reset their password, log in, and delete the account.
Changing Your Account Email
- From Later on desktop, go to Settings > Account Settings
- Scroll to Personal Information & Security
-
Next to Email, select Change
-
Enter and confirm the new account email address
Note: You must enter an email address that isn’t already connected to any Later account as a user or admin. This email address will become the Account Owner login after the change. - Select Change Email
After changing the email address, you’ll be logged out of Later. The new Account Owner can then log in using the updated account email address.
Frequently Asked Questions
What Happens If the New Owner Is Already a User on the Account?
Ownership can’t be transferred directly to an existing user profile. To use an existing user’s email address as the new Account Owner email, first remove that user from the account.
After the user is removed, change the Account Owner email to their email address.
What Happens If the New Owner’s Email Is Already Connected to Another Later Account?
Each email address can only be connected to one Later account. If the new Account Owner email is already connected to another Later account, that account must be deleted before the email address can be used.
If the new owner can’t access the existing account tied to their email address, they can reset their password, log in, and delete the account.
After the existing account is deleted, change the Account Owner email to that email address.
What Changes When You Update the Account Owner Email?
Changing the Account Owner email changes who owns and logs in to the account.
It does not remove users, delete scheduled posts, remove media, erase analytics, cancel billing, or disconnect social profiles.
What Happens If You Can’t Log In to the Current Owner Account?
You must be able to log in to the Later Social account to change the Account Owner email.
If you can’t remember the Account Owner email, can’t access the owner login, or an old employee owns the account, reach out to our team for assistance.
What if I have a Free Later Social Account?
We don’t change email addresses for Free Later Social accounts.
If your social profiles are linked to a Free account you don’t have access to, create a new Later Social account and then reach out to us to verify ownership of the social profiles.
