Social Inbox brings your Instagram and Facebook DMs together with your Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok comments into one place inside Later. Reply faster, keep conversations in context, and stop switching between apps to stay on top of what your audience is saying.
What Social Inbox Supports
Social Inbox currently supports:
- DMs and comments for Instagram and Facebook
- Comments for TikTok
Social Inbox is a beta feature and is available on Later for desktop only at this time.
Access Social Inbox
- From Later for desktop, select Social Inbox from the left navigation menu
- Select your Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok profile from the top of the pageYou can select multiple profiles at once

From the side panel, select Messages for DMs (Instagram and Facebook) or Posts to view comments on your posts
- Use the dropdown to sort your messages or posts by Newest or Oldest first
From the top of the left sidebar, you can switch between your Facebook Page or Instagram profile to view messages and posts, or your TikTok profile to view comments.
Manage DMs in Social Inbox
Select a message from the sidebar to open the conversation view. Use the search box at the top to filter for specific users.
In the conversation panel on the right, type your response and select Reply. Replies are sent to the user in real time.
To check for new DMs, refresh your browser tab.
Note: If you open a DM in Instagram, it will still be marked as unread in Social Inbox.
Manage Comments in Social Inbox
When a post is selected, you'll see a list of comments with any replies nested under the parent comment.
- Select the arrow icon to reply to a comment
- Select the crossed-out eye icon to hide a comment
- Select the trash can icon to delete a comment
Frequently Asked Questions
Why am I Seeing "Error: Cannot Load Messages"?
This error means your Instagram account has disabled access to direct messages. Enable them from the Instagram app:
- In the Instagram mobile app, go to your profile
- Tap ☰ in the top right corner
- Tap Messages and story replies
- Tap Message requests
- Toggle on Allow access to messages
Can I Restrict a Member's Access to Social Inbox?
Not at this time. Account Owners can only edit roles and permissions for Reviewers and users who can Publish Without Approval. See Team Collaboration and Content Approvals for more on permissions.
Limitations
A few additional limits to keep in mind:
- Social Inbox is available on Later for desktop only, not mobile
- DMs can't be marked as unread, and won't be marked as "seen" when viewed in Social Inbox
- Emoji reactions aren't supported
- Due to Instagram API limits, only DMs received within the past 7 days can be responded to
- Conversations from the Requests tab are included only if they have activity within the past 30 days
- Instagram-specific features such as voice notes, images, and polls aren't supported
- New threads with users you haven't previously DMed can't be created
- Instagram DM notifications about post tags aren't displayed in Social Inbox
