How Billing Works When You Change Plans
Upgrades
Upgrades take effect immediately and are prorated. The following changes count as upgrades:
- Monthly plan to a higher annual plan
- Annual plan to a higher annual plan (for example, Growth Annual to Scale Annual)
- Monthly plan to a higher monthly plan (for example, Growth Monthly to Scale Monthly)
How proration works depends on how you originally signed up:
- Desktop: You'll receive a credit for unused time on your current plan, automatically applied to the cost of the new plan.
- iOS: You'll be refunded for the remaining time on the current plan, and the new plan will be charged at full price.
Downgrades
Downgrades take effect at the start of your next billing cycle. You keep full access to your current plan until then. The following changes count as downgrades:
- Annual plan to the equivalent monthly plan (for example, Starter Annual to Starter Monthly)
- Monthly plan to a lower annual plan (for example, Growth Monthly to Starter Annual)
- Annual plan to a lower annual plan (for example, Scale Annual to Growth Annual)
- Annual plan to a higher monthly plan (for example, Growth Annual to Scale Monthly)
That last one is worth noting: even if you're moving to a "higher" plan name, switching from annual to monthly is treated as a downgrade because you're moving from a more committed billing type to a less committed one.
Add-ons
Add-ons follow the same rules as plan changes: adding is prorated and takes effect immediately, removing takes effect at the end of your billing cycle with no refund for unused time.
