Alternative text (or alt text) is a short description that appears in place of an image or video. Alt text is used to describe the image or video for people with visual impairments and/or replace an image or video if it fails to load.
Adding useful and clear alt text to all the media items in your posts helps ensure your content is accessible to everyone.
Important:
- Alt text is available for all Later plans, including Free
- Scheduling alt text is available through Later for desktop and on Later's mobile apps (excluding Instagram, which is currently only available for desktop)
-
Alt text is available for scheduling posts to Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Instagram
- Alt text is currently not available for scheduling posts to TikTok
- Alt text has a 1,000 character limit

Note: If a post is created using media with alt text already added to a profile that isn't currently compatible with alt text scheduling (for example, TikTok), this will be copied to the caption when you create posts. This is called a media description.
