There are two ways to get Hashtag Suggestions with Later, depending on your plan: you can search for a hashtag to generate related suggestions, or get suggestions based on your post’s caption.
Tip: Create Saved Captions with your most frequently used hashtags to save time.
Important:
- Search-based Hashtag Suggestions (generated based on a related hashtag you enter) is available on web and mobile on current paid plans
- Search-based Hashtag Suggestions are only available for Instagram and Facebook posts
- Auto Hashtag Suggestions (generated based on your caption) is only available through Later on the web on Growth plans and up
- Auto Hashtag Suggestions is only available for Instagram posts
Search-based Hashtag Suggestions
Note: This will generate up to 30 related hashtags at once, sorted by relevance. Search Hashtag Suggestions is currently only available for Instagram and Facebook (not TikTok).
Search for a hashtag to help you find related ones to add to your post, available on current paid plans. Here’s how:
Desktop
- In Later on the web, create a Facebook or Instagram post from any Media Item
- Click Hashtag Suggestions under the Post Caption field
- In the Hashtag Suggestions window, enter a hashtag you want to find suggestions for and click Suggest
- Select the hashtags you want to insert by clicking the checkboxes to the right
- Click Insert Hashtags to insert your selected hashtags into your post
- Click Done to close the Hashtag Suggestions window
- Continue editing your post as normal
iOS
- In the Later iOS app, create a Facebook or Instagram post from any Media item
- Click the
icon under the Post Caption field
- In the search field, enter a hashtag you want to find suggestions for
- Select the hashtags you want to insert by tapping the + icon to the right
- Tap Insert Hashtags to insert your selected hashtags into your post
- Continue scheduling your post as normal
Android
- In the Later Android app, create a Facebook or Instagram post from any Media item
- Click the
- In the search field, enter a hashtag you want to find suggestions for
- Select the hashtags you want to insert by tapping the circular checkboxes to the right
- Tap Insert Hashtags to insert your selected hashtags into your post
- Continue scheduling your post as normal
Auto Hashtag Suggestions
With Auto Hashtag Suggestions for Instagram, you just have to write a caption and we’ll do the rest! Available on Growth plans and up. Here’s how:
Desktop
- Create a post for Instagram
- Write a caption for your post
- Click Hashtag Suggestions under the post caption field
- In the Auto tab, you’ll see hashtags based on your caption
- Select the hashtags you want to insert
- Click Insert Hashtags to insert your selected hashtags into your post
- Click Done
iOS
- In the Later iOS app, create an Instagram post from any media item
- Write a caption for your post
- Tap the
icon under the Post Caption field
- Tap Auto at the top of the screen
- Tap the + symbol next to the captions you want to add to your post
Tip: You can also switch over to the Search tab and select additional hashtags from there. You won’t lose the ones you already selected. - Tap the Insert Hashtags button
- Continue scheduling your post as normal
Android
- In the Later Android app, create an Instagram post from any media item
- Write a caption for your post
- Tap the
icon under the Post Caption field
- Tap Auto at the top of the screen
- Tap the + symbol next to the captions you want to add to your post
Tip: You can also switch over to the Search tab and select additional hashtags from there. You won’t lose the ones you already selected. - Tap the Insert Hashtags button
- Continue scheduling your post as normal
Note: If you edit your caption, we’ll show you a new list of hashtag suggestions based on your updated caption.
Tip: If no hashtags are suggested, try editing your caption. You can also use Search to find your own hashtag suggestions.
