As a verified partner of several major platforms, Later meets strict security, privacy, and compliance standards to keep those relationships in good standing. That includes following each platform's API rules to protect your account and prevent unauthorized actions. This article covers how Later connects to your profiles for scheduling and publishing, what it can and can't do, and how your data stays safe.
Partner Platforms
Later is a verified partner of the following platforms:
| Platform | Relationship |
| Meta (Instagram & Facebook) | Member of the Meta Business Accelerator program |
| TikTok | Tiktok Marketing Partner |
| Pinterest Business Partner | |
| Snapchat | Member of the Snap Advanced Partner Program |
| Official Marketing Partner |
Later also follows API policies and guidelines for YouTube.
Why Connect a Facebook Page
For Instagram scheduling, Meta requires your business or creator profile to be connected to a Facebook Page so Later can access publishing permissions and analytics. You don't need to use or post to the Page. It acts as the connection layer between Instagram and Meta's tools. For steps, see Connect Instagram to a Facebook Page, and for which features depend on it, see Instagram and Facebook Page Requirement in Later.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will Later Have Access to My Password or Login Information?
No. Later never sees your password or private login details.
When you connect a profile, a secure pop-up redirects you to the official platform, where you sign in directly, not through Later. The platform doesn't hand over your password. Instead it issues an access token, a kind of guest pass that lets Later do only the specific things you approved, like scheduling posts or pulling analytics.
Like a guest pass, an access token expires. Changing your password, for example, invalidates the token. When that happens, Later loses access until you reconnect and refresh the profile.
What Information Does Later Require?
Each platform offers different features and asks for different permissions. The first time you connect a profile, you can review every permission Later requests before approving. For Later to work correctly, grant all of them. These typically cover things like your handle, profile name, and post analytics.
Note: Later only requests the minimum permissions needed, so you stay in control of what you share.
Meta Requirements:
| Permissions | Required? | Notes |
| View profile and access media | Yes | Cannot be turned off |
| Access and publish content | Yes | Cannot be turned off |
| Access and manage insights | Yes | Cannot be turned off |
| Access and manage comments | No | Only used for Social Inbox and Mentions. |
| Access and manage messages | No | Only used for Social Inbox and Mentions. |
Will Later Post Random Things on My Profile?
No. Later only publishes what you schedule through it.
When a scheduled time arrives, Later confirms your profile is still connected and has the needed permissions, then submits the post through the platform's official API. The connection expires every couple of months by design, so you regularly re-consent to Later publishing on your behalf. If it expires, scheduled posts won't publish and data won't refresh until you reconnect.
Will Later Act as My Profile?
The only times it may look like Later is acting for you are:
- Publishing posts: Posts you schedule are submitted through the platform's official API and appear to your followers exactly as if you posted them directly
- Replying to comments: If you use Later's Social Inbox feature, replies to public Instagram or TikTok comments are sent through official APIs and appear to come from your profile
What Can't Later Do?
Later follows each platform's rules and limitations, so it can't:
- Delete posts published through Later (remove those on the platform itself)
- Perform mass actions like bulk following or unfollowing
- Bypass API restrictions, such as posting text-only updates to Instagram or adding stickers to Instagram Stories (these must be done in the Instagram app)
If you use other third-party tools that perform actions Later is restricted from, make sure they follow each platform's terms. Unauthorized actions can violate platform policies and put your account at risk.
How Do I Revoke Permissions?
Two ways, anytime:
- Remove your social profile from Later. See Add, Remove & Transfer Social Profiles in Later
- Revoke access directly on the platform, in its third-party app settings
Once revoked, Later's next request is denied.
How Does Later Keep My Data Safe?
Later uses encryption and industry standard security practices to keep your data safe. Please visit http://trust.later.com/ to learn more.
How Do I Delete My Data?
When you delete your Later account, personal and sensitive information is immediately removed from Later's core and transactional systems. Within 90 days, all remaining data is removed from Later's systems and third-party services, and log information is only kept for 90 days. The exception is email stored in marketing systems, which you can clear by unsubscribing from mailing lists.
Where Can I Learn More About the APIs?
Some platforms require a developer sign-up for full API detail, but here are public resources: Meta Graph API, TikTok API, Pinterest API, LinkedIn API, YouTube API, and Snapchat API.
