Use Caption Writer to write your captions for you! With just a few words about your post, Caption Writer can generate new captions for you, or rephrase existing ones to use a different tone or phrasing.
Important:
- Caption Writer is only available on Later’s current paid plans

What is Caption Writer?
Later’s Caption Writer uses AI technology to generate captions for your post based on the prompt you enter. Through app.later.com on desktop, you can also rephrase and/or change the tone of captions you provide.
Once you generate a caption you like, you can add it to your post and edit it to your liking, or use it as-is.
How to Generate Captions with Caption Writer
Desktop
Through app.later.com on desktop, you can choose between generating new captions or modifying existing ones by rephrasing and/or changing the tone:
Generate New Caption
- In Later on the web, schedule a post for any social platform
- Leave the Post Caption field blank
- Under the caption field, click Need help writing a caption?

In the Describe your post field, enter a few words about your post
- Optional: Select a Casual or Professional tone, or select Custom to enter your own tone descriptor

Click Generate Captions
Note: Each time you generate new captions, you will use 1 credit -
Optional: Regenerate a caption with a different tone or phrasing
Note: Each time you regenerate a caption, you will receive 3 new versions of that caption and use 1 credit

Click on a caption to add the text to your caption
- Adding a caption to your post will not replace the existing text in the post caption; it will append it to the end

If you want to generate another set of captions for your post, click Generate New Captions
- When you generate new captions, the existing captions will be permanently deleted
Modify Existing Caption
- In Later on the web, schedule a post for any social platform
- Enter your existing caption in the Post Caption field
- Under the caption field, click Need help writing a caption?
- Select one of the following options:
- Change Tone: Regenerate the caption you currently have entered with a different tone. You'll have the opportunity to select between a casual, professional, or custom tone prior to generating captions.

Rephrase Caption: Regenerate the caption you currently have entered with different phrasing
Important: Clicking this option will immediately use 1 credit to generate 3 variations of the current caption. You will also have the option to rephrase again or change the tone of the rephrased captions, again using 1 credit per 3 generated variations. - Generate New Captions: Refer to Generate New Caption section above

Click on a caption to add the text to your caption
- Adding a caption to your post will not replace the existing text in the post caption; it will append it to the end
iOS
Through Later's iOS app, you can choose between generating new captions or modifying existing ones by rephrasing and/or changing the tone:
Generate New Caption
- In Later’s iOS app, schedule a post for any social platform
- Tap the Write a Caption field
- On the Caption screen, tap the Caption Writer icon near the right side of the screen:
- Enter a few words about your post

Tap the Return/Enter key on your keyboard to generate captions
Note: Each time you generate captions, you will use 1 credit -
Tap + next to a generated caption to add it to your post
- This won’t replace any existing text in the caption field; your generated caption will be added to the end
- Continue to edit your caption and/or schedule your post as normal
Modify Existing Caption
- In Later’s iOS app, schedule a post for any social platform
- Tap the Write a Caption field
- Enter your existing caption
- Under the caption field, tap Rewrite Caption With AI
- Select one of the following options:

Rephrase Caption: Regenerate the caption you currently have entered with different phrasing
- Make it Casual: Regenerate the caption you currently have entered with a casual tone
- Make it Professional: Regenerate the caption you currently have entered with a professional tone

Rephrase Caption: Regenerate the caption you currently have entered with different phrasing
- You'll see a popup confirming the number of credits your selection will use. Tap the option you selected again to proceed with generating the new captions using the specified number of credits.
- Alternatively, tap Cancel to go back without using any credits

Tap Add to Caption under the generated caption you'd like to use
- Adding a caption to your post will not replace the existing text in the post caption; it will append it to the end
Android
- In Later’s Android app, schedule a post for any social platform
- Tap the Write a Caption field
- On the Caption screen, tap the Caption Writer icon near the right side of the screen:
- Enter a few words about your post

Tap the Return/Enter key on your keyboard to generate captions
Note: Each time you generate captions, you will use 1 credit -
Tap + next to a generated caption to add it to your post
- This won’t replace any existing text in the caption field; your generated caption will be added to the end
- Continue to edit your caption and/or schedule your post as normal
About Credits
Every time you successfully generate new captions using Caption Writer, or re-generate an existing caption with a different tone or phrasing, you use 1 credit. You can’t generate captions if you don’t have any credits. Learn more about credits
