Two-factor authentication (2FA), also known as multi-factor authentication, adds an extra layer of security to your Later account by requiring you enter an authentication code in addition to your password when you log in.
Enable 2FA
Here’s how to enable 2FA in your Later Account:
- From app.later.com on desktop, select Settings
- Scroll down to Manage authenticator application and select Manage:
- Under Two factor Authentication, select Set up authenticator:
- You'll be prompted to log in again for authentication
- Install one of the suggested authenticator apps, if you don’t already have one
- Open the authenticator app and use it to scan the QR code shown
- A 6-digit number will show up in your authenticator app—enter this into the One-Time code field
- [Optional] Give this device a nickname under Device Name for identification
- Select Submit
- Save the backup codes provided to a safe place, like in a password-protected document or as a secure note in your password manager
- You can use these backup codes to log in if you don’t have your phone available to generate a code
- Each backup code can only be used once
The device you just added will now show in the list under Two factor Authentication. From here you can set up additional apps, or remove an existing one by clicking Remove next to it in the list.
Log In With 2FA
Important: If you haven’t signed in to Later since the July 2024 Login Update, you’ll need to reconfigure your 2FA authenticator app even if you set one up previously.
- On the Later login page, enter your email address > Next
- Enter your password > Next
- In the Verification Code field, enter your 6-digit 2FA code from your authenticator app
- Look for app.later.com in the authenticator app
- Select Log In
Note: Authenticator app codes expire after a certain amount of time, usually 30 or 60 seconds. If you enter the wrong code the first time, please double-check whether the code has already expired in the app, and if so, enter the newly-generated code.
